Back on these characters that we would have liked to see survive in The Suicide Squad.

We had been warned from the start, the dead in The Suicide Squad, there is! James gunn sets the tone from the start of the film, which already sees the character count being drastically reduced, and most of the team led by Rick Flag are quickly killed. The rest of Task Force X did not seem immune, however. We can guess that an even more dramatic death may happen a little later in the blockbuster, but once the last part is reached, we say to ourselves that the group of survivors may be safe. This was obviously before Rick Flag was killed by Peacemaker, and Polka-Dot Man ended up being crushed after finally gaining some semblance of self-confidence. Two characters that we would have really liked to find in another project, and that we already regret.

Rick flag

Rick Flag was not only seen as a leader by his team, but also as a true hero. He has proven it on numerous occasions in The Suicide Squadwhether it’s helping the rebel group led by Sol Soria, trying to save Harley Quinn, or refusing to play Amanda Waller’s game. He also always seemed to see Task Force X as a team in its own right, despite their criminal past. Being a hero isn’t enough to survive in the superhero universe, but this new character adaptation made us want to see more. He was more relaxed, funnier, closer to the anti-heroes, and you could tell Joel Kinnaman took more pleasure in playing him. It would have been interesting to see him lead other missions, and explore the evolution of his relationship with the former and future inmates of Belle Rêve.

Polka-Dot Man

Polka-Dot Man is one of the new faces of The Suicide Squad, and is arguably not the most popular, nor the best known character in the DC Comics universe. In the film, there is nonetheless a protagonist to whom we become attached, made particularly touching thanks to the interpretation of David Dastmalchian. He is a character who suffers, and who manages to flourish thanks to Task Force X. However, no sooner has he proclaimed himself a superhero that the ax falls, or rather Starro, killing him in an instant. A death that we do not expect and that we regret, since Polka-Dot Man would have deserved to stay a little longer in the DCEU. The magic of cinema and the world of superhero movies being what it is, who knows? Perhaps it will come back to our screens soon …

Special Mention: Captain Boomerang

Like Rick Flag, Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang is one of the characters already introduced in the previous Suicide Squad movie. It was even mentioned in Birds of Prey. Which is probably why his death surprised us so much, especially since it takes place at the start of the film. It is therefore virtually not present in The Suicide Squad, which is quite a shame. He seemed to have a lot of potential, but we’re going to have to do without him now. Unlike Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn and Bloodsport survived the outcome of The Suicide Squad, and Margot Robbie and Idris Elba already have an idea of the direction they would like to take with their characters.
