Sony has been working on a major response to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass for a while now. Originally called Project Spartacus, the new PSPlus was finally revealed a few weeks ago, complete with a whole new formula in an attempt to shade the competition. Scheduled to arrive in Europe on Wednesday June 22 (in two days), this new PS Plus brings a lot of changes. The opportunity for us to make a small inventory before his arrival.

New rates, with several offers

There is now a system of levels in the prices of the PSPlus. Thus, three subscriptions are now offered. We thus find:

  • PS Plus Essential – €8.99 per month, €24.99 per quarter or €59.99 per year
  • PS Plus Extra – €13.99 per month, €39.99 per quarter or €99.99 per year
  • PS Plus Premium – €16.99 per month, €49.99 per quarter or €119.99 per year

Thus, the PS Plus Essential takes the pricing of the current PS Plus, and adds two new more expensive offers with more features and content.

What’s new?

As mentioned earlier, the PS Plus Essential takes on the qualities of the old PS Plus subscription (free games every month, ability to play online, cloud saves storage, exclusive discounts). PS Plus Extra includes the PS Plus Essential offer, while adding access to a catalog of 400 games available locally. Finally, PS Plus Premium includes all the qualities of PS Plus Extra and Essential, adding access to a catalog of 340 additional games, including some games from PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3. In addition, the PS Plus Premium will be able to give preview access to certain PS5 games for 2 hours.

What about games?

The new PS Plus thus offers many additional games which can be enjoyed at no additional cost (for the most expensive offers). Among the games offered, there are for example Demon’s Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Marvel’s Spiderman, The Last Guardian, Red Dead Redemption… In other words, tons of classics now accessible under the simple condition of paying a subscription. Additionally, much of Sony’s previous console catalog will be available to all PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.
