Extension patch 9.2, Shadowlands: The End of Eternity, was recently presented by the studio’s development team Blizzard. But it had been some time since the game began to be shunned by some players in favor of other MMORPGs like New World Where Final Fantasy XIV, whose latest expansion was recently released. Nevertheless, certain die-hards, including myself, continue to roam the regions of Azeroth or Outland, a new zone deployed with Shadowlands. I will explain to you why, despite the lack of interesting content, I continue to play World of warcraft.

The lore of World of Warcraft is particularly worked
World of warcraft is one of the MMORPGs with the most fleshed out lore. Indeed, we must already remember that the entire franchise Warcraft has a real story and it begins in the year -147,000. At the time, the mighty Titans arrive on what we now call Azeroth and decide, after defeating the Elder Gods and their elemental lieutenants, to create two races: the Terrestrial, who would later become the Dwarves, and the Sea giants. Each of the two races must respectively model the lands and the waters. So begins the story of Warcraft.

Since, Blizzard has continued to fuel this story and make it more complex. Indeed, in the latest expansions, we discover a Sylvanas in turn alongside the Alliance and then against it, only to discover that she was, potentially, manipulated by an unknown entity. And she’s not the only one. Jaïna Proudmoore, for example, also has a very strong history around family tears, the acceptance of others, etc. Or Thrall, whose father stood up to Gul’Dan or Anduin, now controlled by the Jailer. Each faction, beyond having heroes, has characters with radiant charisma, but with a history marked by drama and violence, allowing players to bond and vibrate as they discover them. more about his favorite characters.
World of Warcraft is not just a game
Far from the cliché of the years 90-2000, fans of World of warcraft are not cartoonish geeks who spend their time traveling in a fictional universe behind their screen. One of the strengths of WoW lies precisely in the diversity of its community (role player, artist, casual player, PGM, etc.). This diversity has even led World of Warcraft to transcend the frontier of video games. Thus, many novels have been published under the colors of Warcraft and of WOW. In particular, we discover the history of certain characters or important historical events of the lore. We find for example, in the novel World of Warcraft: Rise of the Horde, the story of the union of the orc clans and how the Horde came to be.

Editor Panini has also released several comics World of warcraft. These recount the adventures of Varian Wrynn alongside Valeera Sanguinar and Broll Mantelours, from his beginnings as a gladiator until he regained his throne. In addition to works of entertainment like the books or even the movie released a few years ago, World of warcraft also inspired the publication of cookbooks. There are currently two books, featuring the dishes available in the game, which have been published in recent years, allowing fans to try their hand at cooking their favorite MMORPG.

In the end, playing World of warcraft it’s not just playing one of the many MMORPGs, it’s above all immersing yourself in an infinite universe that can transport you in so many ways. In addition, the universe is regularly fed, whether by the studio teams Blizzard or by the fans themselves through roleplay, cosplay, fan fiction, etc. Although I have been able to try other MMORPGs like New World or even Guild wars, I always came back to World of warcraft because, whether it’s for the lore or for the fact that WOW goes beyond simple “video games”, I’m not ready to leave Azeroth, no matter what.
