The universe of The Lord of the Rings is once again about to expand to the big screen!
Eighteen years after the release of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, fans of the JRR Tolkien universe will also be able to discover the series commissioned by Amazon Prime Video. However, this pharaonic show, recently at the heart of a controversy on the web, is ultimately not the only current project based on the famous world of heroic fantasy. Indeed, the studios New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Animation have announced that they are working on an animated prequel of the Lord of the Rings entitled The War of the Rohirrim, under the direction of the director of the anime Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Kenji Kamiyama.
On the plot side, the feature film will take place 250 years before the events of the original trilogy and will aim to explore the untold history of Helm’s Deep, the iconic fortress discovered in The Two Towers. The prequel will plunge us into the heart of a bloody era and will focus in particular on the life of the legendary hero of Middle-earth Helm Hammerfist, the King of Rohan as well as the confrontation of his people against the Dunlendings. Another interesting point, despite its independence, the film will serve as a complement to the trilogy produced by Peter Jackson. An exciting detail that should strengthen the appeal of fans around the project, whose development seems to be accelerating. From early details, New Line Cinema is already focusing on animation work and voice casting. What very certainly to obtain in the coming months, the first names of the cast. In the meantime, you can still find out the reason why Sauron failed to bribe hobbits like Frodo or Sam in The Lord of the Rings !
