We feel that the exit ofElden ring fast approaching. Scheduled for February 25 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series and Xbox One, the game is in the spotlight this month in the British magazine EDGE, which was able to interview Hidetaka Miyazaki. The president of FromSoftware in particular reveals that his team felt the pressure when they saw the graphic quality of Demon’s Souls PS5. It also offers new details on a previously unveiled character, the charismatic King Godfrey.
But before talking about it, let’s take a quick look at the scenario and Elden Ring’s universe is essential. The game takes place in a world called Between Earth, sometime after the annihilation of the Golden Order and the destruction of the Circle of Elden. The kingdom is now in ruins and ruled by demigods, each possessing a Shard of the Circle that corrupts them. The player’s goal will be to defeat these demigods to become the new Lord of Elden.
Godfrey, a major character in Elden Ring
Now let’s see what role Godfrey plays in all of this. For that, let’s give the floor to Hidetaka Miyazaki. He speaks in particular of the involvement of George RR Martin, author of Game of Thrones, who helped create the universe of Elden Ring.
When George developed the mythology of the game, we asked him to create dramatic heroes of those events that take place before those of the game. That kind of dramatic, heroic character isn’t really present in our previous games, it’s so something that really appealed to me, seeing how George was going to portray the mystical aspects of these characters. And Godfrey is the embodiment of that sort of thing. He is one of the major characters. One of the motivations for the player character is to become the next Lord of Elden. During the heyday of the Golden Order, there were two Lords, and Godfrey was the first of them. He was married to Queen Marika the Eternal, of whom we have already spoken. It is representative of this period of greatness and abundance. He himself has become a Radianceless, he shares this deep bond with the player character. He is an embodiment of the long history of the Sans-Shards and their struggle.
