Of the millions of copies sold in 2020, ultimately very few players have requested a refund following the controversy following the marketing of Cyberpunk 2077 at the end of last year. A very astonishing figure.
Unless you spent all fall and winter in a cellar cut off from the world (which and after all completely possible in full confinement), you must have heard of the debacle. Cyberpunk 2077. When the game of CDProjekt was finally released last November after heaps of delays, it generated incredible controversy for one simple reason: it was unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One FAT versions. In order to show its good will, the CD Projekt team had been able to offer players wishing to be reimbursed.. Sony and Microsoft have been in the same direction by completely removing the game from their respective stores. So we could expect huge reimbursement figures for the game … but ultimately it is not.
During a meeting with investors, CD Projekt was able to give some details about these famous refunds: in total, only 30,000 players asked to return the game, out of almost 14 million copies sold in 2020 (i.e. in about a month) … This equates to a loss of around $ 2.17 million for the studio, but when you compare to the number of sales of the game in 2020, it’s absolutely nothing at all.. Piotr Nielubowicz, the CEO of the Polish studio, has also indicated that 95% of the requests have been satisfied (so 5% remain waiting to be reimbursed at the moment). So how do you explain this small number? Maybe players have appreciated the efforts CDProjekt has made to patch the game since its release.. Maybe quite a few PS4 or Xbox One gamers are waiting for a PS5 or Xbox Series X upgrade … Anyway, this whole story ultimately benefits CD Projekt very well, despite the big controversy at the start.
