Rumors have been circulating about Call of Duty 2022 for several months now, which would be none other than the potential sequel to the essential Modern Warfare. The rumor has also intensified this afternoon with a publication of Tom’s Guide which indicated that the next opus would indeed be a sequel to the 2019 reboot. It didn’t take long before this was confirmed a few hours later via tweets from several influencers but also from the developers themselves. It was the head of the co-studio of Infinity Ward, Pat Kelly, who released the information during a call with the press according to Charlie Intel. A call that was later corroborated by a official blog post by Activision. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Call of Duty title.
Modern Warfare 2 confirmed for 2022
Call of Duty is therefore officially heading back to the present, with Modern Warfare 2 finally confirmed after huge speculation. Kelly said “it should be obvious” that they’re working on the game after the huge success of 2019’s Modern Warfare, which sold out more than 30 million copies. The game will be built on a brand new engine, which the company “has been working on for years” as Infinity Ward seeks to improve the experience for players across all platforms. No exact release date has yet been communicated but it seems that the title is scheduled for fall 2022 as is often done.
In addition, Kelly indicated that a “new war zone experience” would be built on the new engine of MW2 which will be used for the next Warzone experience. This will notably allow the two games to work together seamlessly after years of problems. For his part, the creative director announced that the game will feature “an incredibly ambitious sandbox mode”. Again, no release date for this new Warzone but it is logical to think that it will be integrated into Warfare a few months later. Finally, the developers have promised not to abandon the current games and to correct the many problems as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can still enjoy Season 2 on the current Call of Duty.
