Back on a second rainy day at the Festival d’été du Québec. Mariah Carey and a few surprises were there.
After a first day at the Quebec Summer Festival with the great kings of the Diplo and Kygo turntables, the editor was in a hurry to find THE diva of all time … Mariah Carey. But above all, a little discovery of Old Quebec where we had the chance to visit a few vinyl stores. One that particularly marked us: Musique Chez Sonny, where the owner is a true enthusiast. Here, no new records but only originals of the time. If you come to Quebec one day, we highly recommend this little shop with a thousand treasures. This day of musical discovery inspired us for our second evening at the festival. Direction the Bell stage for Daniel Caesar.
We did not expect to discover an artist like Daniel Caesar at the festival. A true sensation in Canada but unknown in France, the artist is nevertheless part of the new generation of R’n’B artists like Jorja Smith or H.E.R. It is with his group and his singers that the singer from Toronto came to present his latest album Case Study 01 where John Mayer and Pharrell Williams make an appearance there. In any case, what a pleasure to discover the crooner live for the first time who will surely be the subject of a #Soundcheck like Lauv, the pop phenomenon who is not afraid to talk about his depression surely very soon.
The excitement of the crowd is palpable and for good reason, Mariah Carey must arrive on stage any minute. It is perched on her high heels that the singer appeared. Despite the rain, Mariah seems in great shape and in a good mood and does not hesitate to joke with the Quebec public. Voice level, there is nothing to complain about. No playback, no pitfall, Mariah is at the top of her game and continues the hits with a big smile. After a few dress changes, the singer returns to the stage for a third part boosted by the interpretation of all her hits as “Heartbreaker”, “Touch My Body” and “Hero”. There is no denying that we are Mariah fans. We will not explain to you how we ended up facing a concert of real Village People just after the show of the American diva but we can tell you that this second evening at FEQ was really surprising. See you tomorrow to take stock of the 100% rap day with Logic, Gucci Mane and Lil Pump.
