A Plague Tale Requiem is a highly anticipated game, especially since it is French, since it was developed by the Bordeaux studio Asobo. The Xbox conference had released a nice trailer, but we still didn’t have a release date, and a long gameplay phase like the one offered today by Focus Entertainmentthe game’s publisher. So it’s official, A Plague Tale Requiem will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch via the cloud on October 18th. It will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.

A Plague Tale Requiem is still quite classic

For once, the gameplay sequence does not lie about what the game will actually be. It’s ultra inspired by The Last of Us, not to say that it’s exactly the same thing, but in a different context. There will be phases of infiltration, where it will be necessary as usual to sneak between the enemies, or distract them by throwing objects that make noise. Of course, everything happens in pairs, since Amicia constantly holds Hugo’s hand.

The gameplay sequence also offers its share of fights when you are spotted, and it is clear that you will have to make do with what you have under your arm, exactly like in The Last of Us. Finally, the trailer finished with the appearance of rats, which Hugo can control in order to get out of a truly desperate situation. We are therefore on the famous mix between action and infiltration in TPS gameplay, which has been one of the industry standards since the PS4 generation.

The game still promises to depict an era never before approached in video games, since we are in the middle of the Black Death in Europe. It is also a pleasure to see France produce games that are certainly classic, but still visually ambitious, and with a strong international reach. It remains to be seen whether this second opus will be able to convince in a post-Elden Ring era.
